Plantation Shutters

Plantation shutters are the top-selling interior shutters at this time. They’re usually available with a 3 ½” louver but can also have 2 ½” or 4 ½” louvers.

If you want a contemporary fashion that can brighten any room and add a sophisticated appearance, plantation shutters are a good solution.

Materials and Colors

Top shutters use solid cellular PVC, furniture-grade wood or a blend of the two materials.

PVC helps use less energy since it insulates up to three times better than wood. It’s also light and durable. Wood offers a classic look and can be stained to work with your favorite color palette.

They commonly are made in white colors to illuminate a room, but also come in darker shades.

Louver Size

Louver thickness impacts how broad of a view you’ll receive when your shutters are open. And how much sunshine will be let into your space.

  • 2 ½”—This the smallest louver size for plantation shutters. It works well if you’re trying to match current shutters in your residence or are looking for a historical style. This size works well for little windows, but also can be installed on larger ones.
  • 3 ½”—This is one of the most requested louver sizes, because it has a modern appearance. It complements small to large windows while allowing in ample light.
  • 4 ½”—This is also a well-liked louver width, as it provides an extremely up-to-date look. It’s ideal for large windows and patio doors, as it delivers the widest view.

California Shutters

California shutters have a 2 ½” louver that’s typically white.

Premium versions of this shutter are crafted from solid cellular PVC or fine wood. They might also be created from a blend of the two materials.

This style can be stained or painted a range of colors, except California shutters are commonly white. This keeps rooms bright while permitting in light.

Since California shutters have a narrower louver, they provide a more traditional appearance. They fit either small or large windows.

We can help you design this look for your house by modifying our most wanted plantation shutters.

Traditional Shutters

Traditional shutters are a historically true model with narrow frames and 1 ¼” minute louvers.

The best versions of this shutter are made from blemish-free real wood, such as basswood. They provide a classic style that fits any window width.

We created Louver Shop of Birmingham on these shutters many years ago. Today, we’re one of a handful of manufacturers in the world who still create this style.

Fit is Important for Custom Shutters

A close fit is essential, whichever shutter style you customize.

Off-the-shelf shutters might appear like a great purchase, but they may possibly not be a good fit for your windows. And if they’re made in China, you never know what kind of quality you’re going to get. Or how long they’ll last.
